West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has demanded that a particular newspaper apologise and withdraw its use of the phrase ‘SAFFRON TERRORISM’, saying there would be “no compromise” on the issue.
Adhikari said he was not threatening the media but addressing “that particular paper”. He said the publication would have to apologise and retract “Gerua Tandav”, arguing that the word “gerua”, or saffron, should not be tarnished in this manner.
Adhikari said thousands of saffron-clad sadhus were prepared and were only awaiting consent. He also used an analogy, saying that while a dog may bite a person’s leg, a person does not bite a dog’s leg.
He acknowledged that some may see his comments as those of an opposition leader, while also referring to his role as the head of the BJP-led government. The video does not identify the newspaper concerned, the article in question, or when and where the remarks were made. Any response from the publication remains to be seen.
