Guwahati, October 29: Satyendra Pathak, who was injured in the shooting at Hotel Bilas Inn in Guwahati’s Bora Service area, is showing signs of improvement. He may be discharged from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) within the next four to five days, subject to further medical assessment.
GMCH Superintendent Dr Devajit Choudhury said Pathak’s condition has improved compared with the night of October 26. However, he remains in the intensive care unit (ICU) and continues to receive treatment.
Dr Choudhury also said Pathak has been experiencing difficulty sleeping at night following the incident. The symptoms may be associated with the psychological impact of the traumatic experience.
Pathak is currently not being allowed to meet anyone other than his family members, according to the hospital superintendent.
The shooting took place on the night of October 26 at Hotel Bilas Inn in the Bora Service area of Guwahati. Five people were killed and Pathak was injured in the incident.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting followed a dispute between the hotel’s owners and its leaseholder over the management of the property. The accused, Ghanakanta Gogoi, is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
The incident has caused widespread grief in Assam. Pathak’s improving condition has brought some relief amid the tragedy, although he remains under medical supervision and his discharge will depend on further assessment by doctors.
