AASU Will Continue Fight for Justice for Zubeen Garg: Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya Demands Exemplary Punishment

Guwahati: All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leader Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya has reiterated that the organisation will continue its campaign demanding justice in connection with the death of Zubeen Garg. He said AASU would not rest until justice is delivered and called for exemplary punishment for those found guilty.

Referring to protests held at district headquarters across Assam, Bhattacharya said public anger over the case remains alive even when people are not out on the streets. He maintained that the demand for justice for the popular singer continues to resonate with people across the state.

Expressing faith in the judicial process, the AASU leader said he hoped the court would deliver justice. He added that the movement would continue until those found guilty receive exemplary punishment.

Bhattacharya also referred to the Chief Minister’s statement in the Assam Legislative Assembly describing the incident as murder. Following the filing of the chargesheet by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), he said, the Assam government must ensure that the facts and evidence mentioned in the chargesheet are established before the court.

He stressed that the government must fulfil its responsibility in presenting and proving the evidence before the judiciary.

During his address, Bhattacharya also referred to Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, having to approach the Governor seeking justice. He said the case continues to evoke deep emotions and anger among people in Assam.

On cooperation with other organisations, Bhattacharya said AASU would work collectively with groups whose ideology, thinking and methods align with its own. However, he made it clear that the organisation would maintain its position when there is no alignment in ideology or approach.

Bhattacharya’s remarks reaffirm AASU’s stated position that its demand for justice for Zubeen Garg will continue as the judicial process moves forward.
