Zubeen Garg Justice Demand Committee Writes to Rahul Gautam Sharma

Zubeen Garg Justice Demand Committee Writes to Rahul Gautam Sharma

Guwahati, October 28: The Zubeen Garg Justice Demand Committee has urged Rahul Gautam Sharma to play a key role in strengthening the campaign for justice for the late singer by helping build a united, non-political platform. The letter, dated October 26, calls for greater coordination among political parties, organisations and concerned citizens. Akhil Gogoi is among the members named as part of the committee’s convenor group.

According to the letter, a public discussion held at Zubeen Kshetra on October 25 was attended by artists, journalists, legal experts and concerned citizens from different parts of Assam. The meeting unanimously adopted a special proposal addressed to Rahul Gautam Sharma.

The committee expressed concern over the progress of the case relating to Zubeen Garg’s death and the questions being raised about the evidence presented in the chargesheet. The letter refers to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s description of the death as a murder in the Assam Legislative Assembly and calls for a fresh examination of all aspects of the case.

The committee has urged the Assam government and the Home Department to file a supplementary chargesheet based on the necessary evidence. It has also called for appropriate legal steps to challenge the bail granted to accused persons and measures to ensure that the legal process is pursued effectively. These are demands made by the committee in its letter.

Emphasising the need for collective action, the committee said that the efforts of any single organisation, political party or individual would not be sufficient to strengthen the justice movement. It called for all political parties, organisations and concerned citizens to unite beyond political interests and form a strong, non-political platform.

The letter also states that the movement could gain greater strength and credibility if Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, took on a leadership or coordination role. It refers to concerns she had reportedly raised on social media about attempts to create divisions.

The committee has therefore asked Rahul Gautam Sharma to help establish closer communication with Garima Saikia Garg and the singer’s family and facilitate the formation of a united platform. It described the demand for justice for Zubeen Garg as an issue extending beyond the family to the hopes and moral responsibility of the people of Assam.

The letter concludes with an appeal to political parties, organisations and Zubeen Garg’s admirers across Assam to unite around the demand for justice. The committee’s convenor group members named in the letter are Akhil Gogoi, Bikash Asom, Marshall Baruah, Gyanshree Bora and Sarat Sourav.
