Guwahati: Eyewitness Sushmita Goswami has completed her three-day testimony in the case related to the death of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg.
Speaking to the media after appearing in court, Goswami said the video evidence and statements submitted by the witnesses could help in the pursuit of justice for Zubeen Garg.
According to Goswami, several videos contain geolocation and timestamp information. She said these details could help investigators establish where Zubeen was and what he was doing at different points in time.
Videos and Evidence Submitted to Singapore Police
Goswami said that immediately after the incident, the first call seeking medical assistance was made from her phone.
She further said that Singapore Police subsequently seized their phones, video evidence and statements as part of the investigation.
Addressing videos that have circulated on social media, Goswami clarified that the widely circulated footage was not the video of Zubeen Garg’s final moments.
She said several videos had been recorded on the phones of witnesses as well as the accused persons and that these materials had been handed over to Singapore Police.
‘We Were Not Told About Zubeen’s Serious Condition’
Goswami said the people accompanying Zubeen Garg were not aware that his health condition was so serious.
She said that had they known about the seriousness of his condition beforehand, she would not have allowed Zubeen to attend the party.
Describing the situation as chaotic and traumatic, Goswami said the witnesses made immediate efforts to arrange medical assistance, including seeking an air ambulance.
Witness Declines to Comment on Conspiracy
When asked whether she had felt that a conspiracy was being carried out against Zubeen Garg during the party, Goswami declined to comment.
She said the matter is currently before the court and that she could not make any personal assessment regarding whether the accused were involved in a conspiracy.
According to her, the court would determine whether the evidence points to any conspiracy or wrongdoing.
She also declined to comment on whether the accused persons had genuinely attempted to save Zubeen Garg at the time of the incident.
Multiple Videos Could Help Establish Timeline
Goswami said there are numerous videos stored on her phone as well as on the phones of other witnesses.
She said the geolocation and timestamp information available in the videos could be useful in establishing a detailed timeline of the incident.
She added that she answered the questions put to her during the three-day testimony based on what she knew and what she had personally witnessed.
‘Hope Zubeen Gets Justice’
After completing her testimony, Goswami expressed hope that the evidence submitted by the witnesses would help the court in reaching a conclusion.
She urged people to extend mental and moral support to the other witnesses who are expected to appear before the court.
Goswami said the witnesses should present the facts truthfully so that the court can properly assess the evidence and determine the case.
She reiterated that she wants Zubeen Garg to get justice, while leaving the question of guilt or innocence of the accused to the court.
