Apple is reportedly preparing to unveil its next-generation flagship smartphones, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, at a special event in September 2026.
According to reports, Apple could hold its iPhone launch event on September 9, where the company is expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and potentially its first foldable iPhone.
iPhone 18 Pro Pre-Orders Could Begin on September 12
Apple traditionally opens iPhone pre-orders on the Friday following its launch event. However, September 11, 2026 falls on a Friday and coincides with the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
Reports suggest Apple could therefore move the pre-order date to Saturday, September 12.
The expected timeline is:
- Apple iPhone event: September 9, 2026
- iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders: September 12, 2026
- First retail availability: September 18, 2026
However, Apple has not officially confirmed these dates, so they should be treated as reported information for now.
iPhone 18 Pro May Bring Major Upgrades
The iPhone 18 Pro series is expected to feature Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip, reportedly manufactured using a 2nm process.
The smartphones are also rumoured to receive several other upgrades, including an improved camera system, a smaller Dynamic Island, better battery efficiency and Apple’s next-generation C2 modem.
Another major camera-related change could be a variable-aperture main camera, potentially giving users greater control over photography.
Standard iPhone 18 Could Arrive Later
Apple is reportedly planning a major change to its iPhone launch strategy.
Instead of launching the standard iPhone 18 alongside the Pro models in September, Apple could introduce the regular iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e in spring 2027.
This would mean Apple’s September 2026 event could primarily focus on the premium iPhone 18 Pro lineup and the company’s first foldable iPhone.
Apple’s First Foldable iPhone
Apple is also expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone around the same time.
The foldable model could feature a book-style design and is expected to sit at the premium end of Apple’s smartphone lineup.
