Delhi Police has filed an application in the Supreme Court seeking to have all FIRs connected to the matter quashed, Saurav Das said, estimating that the application refers to around 13 FIRs registered in Delhi.
In a video statement, Das said the police had asked the court to use its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution, which provides for “complete justice”, to end the FIRs at once. He described the move as a positive development. The case details, the FIR numbers and the people named in them were not specified in his statement.
Das said the application was due to be heard on Friday and that he would attend the Supreme Court along with other members of the Kokaro Janata Party. He said they would monitor the hearing and developments over the coming days.
He said a high-level government delegation had been meeting them since guarantees were given in July 25, and had travelled to Puducherry to meet him three times while he was at home there. According to Das, the discussions included the FIRs and compensation.
Das said the government must fulfil promises made to young people and alleged that it was trying to betray them. He said a call had been issued for a peaceful march from India Gate to Police Headquarters on September 5, while adding that he hoped for further positive developments after the hearing.
