Amit Shah Promises UCC in Uttar Pradesh if BJP Wins 2027 Elections

Lucknow, October 30: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday promised that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would be implemented in Uttar Pradesh if the BJP returns to power in the 2027 Assembly elections.

Addressing the BJP’s state working committee meeting in Lucknow, Shah said the party would introduce the UCC in the state after forming the government again.

“This time, when the government comes to power, UCC will be implemented in Uttar Pradesh. UCC has already been implemented in many states. If you form the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, we will implement UCC in Uttar Pradesh,” Shah told party workers.

Expressing confidence about the BJP’s electoral prospects, Shah also targeted Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav. He claimed that the Samajwadi Party would not return to power in Uttar Pradesh for the next 30 years.

The meeting was part of the BJP’s organisational preparations ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. Uttar Pradesh BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary described the upcoming electoral contest as a battle between “destruction and development” and “casteism and nationalism”.

Chaudhary urged party workers to respond to Opposition allegations with facts and focus on strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level.

Shah also asked party leaders and workers to set aside internal differences and concentrate on preparations for the next Assembly elections. He stressed the importance of strengthening booth-level organisation.

The Uniform Civil Code aims to establish a common set of laws for all citizens in matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance and adoption. The issue has remained a key part of the BJP’s political agenda.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav opposed the proposal, saying that the Uniform Civil Code was not worth implementing. The issue is expected to remain a significant point of political debate ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
