On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Akhilesh Yadav drew a distinction between seeking a “gaddi” and seeking a chair, saying a chair was needed to serve the public.
“I am not some saint or ascetic who needs a gaddi; I need a chair,” Yadav said.
He added that the “gaddi” was for those who wanted it, while a chair was needed to serve the people and work for the public.
Yadav referred to the people seated there while stressing that the purpose of holding a chair was public service.
