Microsoft Offers Voluntary Exit to 60,000 Employees

New Delhi, October 27: Microsoft has offered a voluntary exit option to around 60,000 employees, giving eligible staff the opportunity to leave the company with financial support and career-planning assistance. The programme covers selected employees in India, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada.

Who Is Eligible?

Microsoft Chief People Officer Amy Coleman announced the Voluntary Exit Offer (VEO) in an internal memo to employees. Around 60,000 workers, representing approximately 27 per cent of the company’s global workforce, may be eligible for the programme. However, the offer is not available to every employee.

Eligible employees at Level 70 and below in participating teams may qualify. Selected employees in divisions such as AI Experiences, Copilot, Xbox, Windows and Devices, Finance, and Human Resources are among those covered.

What Financial Support Will Employees Receive?

Microsoft has not publicly disclosed the complete terms of the financial package for all eligible employees. Reports indicate that employees who accept the offer will receive financial assistance and career-planning resources. The terms may vary depending on the employee’s location and individual offer.

New Move After 4,800 Job Cuts

In July 2026, Microsoft announced plans to cut approximately 4,800 jobs. The latest voluntary exit programme follows those reductions. The company has not specified how many employees it expects to leave under the new scheme.

Microsoft is also planning substantial investment in AI infrastructure and related technologies. The voluntary exit offer comes amid broader efforts to reorganise its workforce and adapt to changing business needs.
