A video clip circulating on X has rejected claims that a purification ritual held in Uttarakhand was directed at Kharge or the Congress party, describing it instead as a programme organised by local religious organisations.
The remarks maintain that those involved were neither office-bearers nor workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party. They contend that people in Uttarakhand do not know Kharge’s caste and allege that religiously inflammatory slogans were raised at the venue.
The venue was described as a sacred place where Ramleela is staged and major religious events are held. The comments allege that it was dirtied and that people from a particular religion raised the slogans, following which local religious organisations conducted a purification programme.
The remarks accuse the Congress of being without issues and of attempting to build an unnecessary narrative for votes. Referring to Haldwani, they question whether people in Uttarakhand would accept that caste-based discrimination exists in the state, while invoking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas”.
The comments also level allegations against the Congress over its treatment of former party president Sitaram Kesri, Babu Jagjivan Ram and Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, including the claim that Ambedkar was not allowed to receive the Bharat Ratna or enter Parliament. They further refer to Kharge’s seniority and his stated association with Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani.
The clip portrays Uttarakhand as a place that welcomes visitors and gives priority to nationalism, while maintaining that the Congress must work for votes if it seeks electoral support.
