NEW DELHI: An Indian-American couple has gone missing in the Gyirong region along the Nepal-Tibet border after travelling to the Kailash Mansarovar area.
Deepak Ahuja and his wife Madhu Ahuja, who live in the United States, had travelled to Nepal to celebrate Deepak’s 60th birthday in a special way.
According to the family, Deepak wanted to spend his milestone birthday during the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage.
Last Contact From Gyirong Border
According to the family, the couple reached the immigration office near the Gyirong Port on Wednesday after completing their Kailash journey.
It was around 9 am local time in China when the couple reportedly made their last contact with their family.
Around the same time, a massive flash flood struck the Gyirong region, causing widespread damage around the border port.
The couple has not been reachable since then, leaving their family deeply worried.
Daughters Await Any Information
The couple’s daughters, Shreya and Asna, said their last conversation with their parents took place from the Gyirong border area.
The family believes Deepak and Madhu could still be stranded somewhere near the China border.
The daughters said their parents had been extremely excited about their Kailash Mansarovar journey.
Birthday Trip To Kailash
According to the family, Deepak Ahuja celebrated his 60th birthday on August 4.
He had planned to mark the special occasion during the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage.
Deepak travelled to Nepal with his wife Madhu for the journey.
Massive Flood Causes Destruction
A devastating flash flood hit the Nepal-Tibet border region on Wednesday, causing extensive damage.
The powerful floodwaters damaged houses, roads and infrastructure and disrupted communication in the region.
Several people have reportedly remained unaccounted for following the disaster, while rescue efforts are continuing.
The Ahuja family is now waiting for authorities and rescue agencies to provide any information about Deepak and Madhu.
The biggest question now remains: Will the missing couple be rescued safely and reunited with their family?
