A Sultanpur MP-MLA court on Monday acquitted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case over remarks he made about Amit Shah in 2018.
The complaint was filed by local BJP leader Vijay Mishra, who accused Gandhi of making derogatory remarks against Shah, then the BJP national president.
Gandhi appeared before the Sultanpur court in February and denied the allegations. He had described the complaint as politically motivated.
His counsel, Kashi Prasad Shukla, had called the case baseless and sought its dismissal. The material available does not specify the grounds on which the court acquitted Gandhi.
