‘Broken Commitments Cannot Be Excused’: Iran Criticises Trump Over Islamabad MoU Remarks

Tehran, October 28: Iran has strongly criticised US President Donald Trump over his remarks about the Islamabad memorandum of understanding (MoU), accusing Washington of undermining diplomatic commitments.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Trump’s reported remarks describing the Islamabad MoU as a waste of time raised questions about the credibility of US diplomatic commitments. He argued that no party should be allowed to abandon its promises whenever they become inconvenient.

Baghaei also called for international law to be applied consistently to all countries. He said broken commitments should not be excused and that no party should be exempt from accountability.

Trump had commented on the ceasefire during a political rally in Mississippi, saying he had not been particularly comfortable with it. His remarks prompted a response from Iran.

The exchange comes amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran. The dispute over the Islamabad MoU has added to concerns about diplomatic relations and the prospects for further negotiations between the two countries.
