Historic First: Himanta Biswa Sarma to Visit Assam Regimental Centre in Shillong

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will visit the Assam Regimental Centre in Shillong on Saturday, August 29, in what is being described as a landmark occasion. The Chief Minister has been specially invited by the Assam Regimental Centre for a series of programmes at the military establishment.

During his visit, Sarma will pay homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives in service of the nation at the War Memorial of the Assam Regimental Centre.

The Chief Minister will also witness combat drills and military demonstrations, offering an opportunity to see the training, discipline and operational preparedness of the troops.

Another key part of the visit will be his interaction with Army personnel and Agniveer families at the Centre.

The programme brings together three significant aspects of military service—remembering the fallen, witnessing the preparedness of serving personnel and acknowledging the contribution of military families.

Paying tribute to the bravehearts

The War Memorial at the Assam Regimental Centre stands as a reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers in the line of duty.

Sarma’s visit to the memorial will be an occasion to honour their service and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.

Combat drills on display

The Chief Minister will also review combat drills at the Centre.

The demonstrations will showcase the physical training, coordination, discipline and combat preparedness of the personnel associated with the regiment.

Interaction with troops and families

Sarma will further interact with Army personnel and their families, including families of Agniveers.

The interaction is expected to provide an opportunity for the Chief Minister to engage directly with serving personnel and acknowledge the role played by their families alongside their military service.

The visit is scheduled for August 29, 2026, at the Assam Regimental Centre in Shillong.

For the Assam Regimental Centre, the Chief Minister’s presence marks a significant occasion of recognition and honour—bringing together the memory of the fallen, the strength of those serving today and the families who stand behind them.
