Himanta alleges Kharge’s remarks show disrespect for Indian culture

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a video uploaded on X on Monday, October 26, said Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s father had died because of the Razakars and alleged that Kharge’s statements indicated that he and others did not respect Indian culture.

Sarma said he did not want to discuss a court matter, adding that “the law does its work”. He did not identify the case or elaborate on it in the video.

Referring to the Bharat Ratna awarded to Dr Bhupen Hazarika, Sarma claimed that Kharge had criticised both the singer and the Government of India at the time. He also said Kharge’s son regularly makes statements.

“Kharge ji’s father also died because of the Razakars. But he himself says such things that it appears these people do not respect India’s culture,” Sarma said.

The Chief Minister further alleged that their inclination was more towards “Pakistani culture”. He said he felt saddened by this, but added that Kharge was much older than him and that he would say only this much. The video did not include evidence for the allegations or a response from Kharge.
