Badarul Islam, president of NEMSU, has questioned Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s reported remark that he does not like evicting “Miya people.” Islam alleged a contradiction between the statement and the state government’s eviction drives, claiming that Muslims were being selectively targeted.
While supporting the removal of encroachments from forest land, forests and wildlife sanctuaries, Islam called for a uniform eviction policy irrespective of religion. The allegation of selective targeting requires independent verification.
