Guwahati, October 31: “Akhil Gogoi has left me in the lurch!” Advocate Ratul Bora, the first complainant in the death case of singer Zubeen Garg, has expressed frustration over his alleged inability to contact Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi regarding the legal campaign for justice for the late singer.
Addressing a press conference at his residence on Friday, Bora said a meeting held at Zubeen Khetra on October 25 had decided that he would lead the legal fight in the case. He said the decision was taken in the presence of Akhil Gogoi and other participants.
However, Bora alleged that despite making repeated attempts, he had failed to get a response from the MLA.
“I have called Akhil two or three times, but he has not received my calls. I feel as if he has encouraged me to climb the tree and then cut it down from the base,” Bora said, expressing his disappointment.
He also alleged that Dulu Ahmed, who had earlier assured him of support, was not responding to his calls either.
Bora said Ahmed had initially told him to proceed with the legal battle and assured him of support. However, he claimed that subsequent attempts to contact Ahmed had gone unanswered.
Despite the alleged lack of communication, Bora asserted that he would not withdraw from the campaign.
“I have given my word to the people of Assam. That is why I have not stepped back. I will continue to fight for justice for Zubeen Garg,” he said.
The advocate maintained that the legal battle was not a personal initiative but an issue connected with the sentiments of the people of Assam.
Bora also appealed for financial support, saying the committee needed funds to obtain copies of the approximately 12,000-page chargesheet and statements of more than 130 witnesses. The expenses would include copying charges, proofreading, court fees and legal representation.
He announced plans to approach the Supreme Court on November 2 and said he would also move the Gauhati High Court seeking a stronger supplementary chargesheet.
Bora’s remarks have brought the alleged lack of communication with Akhil Gogoi and Dulu Ahmed into focus amid the ongoing legal campaign for justice for Zubeen Garg. No response from Gogoi or Ahmed to Bora’s allegations was available in the press conference material.
