Kailash Vijayborgia said sugar prices had fallen from Rs 70 to Rs 60 and would decline further, while responding to remarks attributed to the Congress that sweets were expensive during the festival period.
Vijayborgia said sugar had been priced at Rs 70 “yesterday or the day before” but was Rs 60 on the day of his remarks.
He claimed that 90% of people nowadays do not prefer eating sweets, adding that he himself does not eat them. He also referred to Ramesh and Rajendra, saying they too did not consume sugar.
Vijayborgia said children should be able to get good sweets at affordable prices under control. For older people, he said doctors did not consider consuming sugar after the age of 40 to be good, and that Ayurveda did not approve of it either.
He suggested eating jaggery instead of sugar for people over 40.
