ATASU Calls 12-Hour Sivasagar District Bandh on November 6

ivasagar, October 31: The All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) has called a 12-hour Sivasagar district bandh on November 6, demanding the protection of Assam’s heritage and eviction of alleged encroachments at Jamuna. ATASU president Basanta Gogoi announced the bandh following the failure of a meeting with the district administration.

According to information available, the Sivasagar district administration had invited the central leadership of ATASU for discussions on Saturday. However, the organisation’s leaders expressed displeasure over the absence of Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav from the meeting, particularly as a sensitive issue was scheduled to be discussed.

Following the development, the agitated ATASU leaders walked out of the meeting venue. Subsequently, Basanta Gogoi announced the 12-hour district bandh on November 6.

Gogoi asserted that nobody would be allowed to play with Assam’s heritage. He also reiterated the organisation’s demand for the eviction of alleged encroachments at Jamuna.

The district administration’s response to the bandh announcement is awaited.
