New Delhi, October 29: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has urged people to join the INDIA bloc’s protest at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1 over alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls. Asking people not to worry about possible police action or batons, he said the march was about protecting democracy and the Constitution, not promoting the interests of any single political party.
In a post on X, Gandhi invited students and people from different backgrounds to take part in the march. He said those who believe that democracy, the Constitution and their freedom to express their views are under threat should come forward and join the protest.
Gandhi also appealed to people who are dissatisfied with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to participate. He described the march as an effort to protect the country and its democratic values.
The Congress-led INDIA bloc has accused the electoral roll revision process, known as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), of irregularities. The opposition alliance is organising the November 1 rally in Delhi and has also demanded the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police has made security arrangements to prevent protesters from moving from Ramlila Maidan towards Jantar Mantar and other restricted areas. According to reports, around 3,000 police personnel are expected to be deployed in and around the venue, with approximately 150 high-definition CCTV cameras monitoring the area.
Police estimates suggest that between 40,000 and 50,000 people from Delhi and other states could attend the rally.
