Guwahati: MLA Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday said the killing of five people in a shooting in Guwahati had exposed what he described as Assam’s severely deteriorating law-and-order situation.
Gogoi said one person used a pistol to shoot dead five people, and argued that the incident showed the state government had failed to improve law and order.
He alleged that the government frequently spoke about encounters and accused it of carrying out what he termed unlawful killings. Despite these encounters, Gogoi said, the government had not been able to bring the law-and-order situation in the state under control.
The MLA urged Assam’s Home Department and Chief Minister to take steps to address what he described as the state’s unresolved law-and-order problem. He did not specify what measures should be taken.
