A relative of Helena Bharali on Tuesday alleged that Ghanakanta Gogoi did not turn up for a proposed meeting aimed at resolving a dispute between the two sides.
The relative said Gogoi had been called and telephoned, with an invitation to come and settle the matter through discussion. The account did not specify when or where the proposed meeting was to be held.
The relative alleged that Gogoi had initially displayed a gun and later fired at those present. These allegations could not be independently verified from the material available.
The relative said Bharali, referred to as a grandmother in the family, had been hardworking, while another family member described as an uncle was a calm person. The relative said they learnt of the incident on Monday evening and called it deeply unfortunate.
The account said two daughters were distressed, including one who believed she might have been able to save her father. It was also alleged that the man was found outside a hotel after apparently trying to flee; the identity of the man and further details of the incident were not established in the video.
